Recent DWR Award Winners

June 2017

The Department of Writing and Rhetoric is continuously celebrating the successes of our faculty. Over the weekend, three of our faculty members have won various awards for their accomplishments.

Stephanie Vie attended the 2017 Computers and Writing conference this past weekend in Findlay, Ohio. There, she received the 2016 Charles Moran Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Field. This award recognizes “exemplary scholarship and professional service to the field of computers and writing.” Dustin Edwards also attended the 2017 Computers and Writing conference, and was recognized by receiving the 2016 Hugh Burns Best Dissertation Award. This award is given annually to acknowledge the best dissertation in computers and writing. Dustin’s dissertation is called “Writing in the Flow: Assembling Tactical Rhetorics in an Age of Viral Circulation” and it is linked below.

Laurie A. Pinkert received a UCF Faculty COACHE Innovation Award of $5,000 to conduct her project, “Innovating UCF Support for Student Fellowship Proposals.” Laurie will be working to pilot a one-credit-hour course where students compose National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, and will be working closely with the McNair Scholars program on campus to support those students as they write these fellowship applications. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with such brilliant and accomplished individuals, and we look forward to what the future will bring.
